Sacred Rituals - Club Mission Summaries
BCA Mission I'mpossible meeting are referred to as "missions". Missions take place in between every day trip or camping trip. Each mission has a writing prompt for the students to respond to, this is their entry ticket to the mission. During each mission Ron brings down a large backpack full of healthy organic food. The students prepare the classroom and food. The food is served and pictures and videos are shown and conversation takes place in a very relaxed environment. After the slide show, the students clean the room. At the end of each mission, each students stands in front of the group and shares their entry ticket. Fair wells are given and the mission is adjourned.

February 21, 2014 - Another outstanding session of sharing while eating our traditional lunch. During the lunch pictures are viewed and reflection talks place from the trip to Sacred RoK on February 18. Ron shares his experience at a presentation for Patagonia and the impact this Club has and could continue to have on our mission. He expresses the need for a video slide show he could share at his presentations. It is decided that Mr. McKee will produce a video slide show using recent pictures, Wabi Sabi Talki, and cultural music. Focus is then turned to collaborating on a mission and vision statement (view the slide show and mission and vision statements on our About Us Page. To end the meeting, another Wabi Sabi Talki takes place, there is problems with our recording device and all is lost! We decide to redo it next meeting based on Pedro's theme of "What if".....

February 11, 2014 - After our traditional lunch with much conversation we announce a that the talking circle will officially be a new ritual for each meeting. Prior to performing the new ritual; photos and video from the last trip to Sacred RoK are viewed and enjoyed, story telling takes place and respect is observed. Several members express themselves and everyone appreciated the reflection. The ritual, the talking circle, begins and each member is provided the opportunity to record a word, quote, or thought from their journal or off the top of their mind until nothing else is to be said. We now call this talking circle, "Wabi Sabi Talki".

January 30, 2014 - Tuesday meeting is postponed to today for reasons out of our control... Six students took a trip to Sacred ROK in Yosemite on January 23, 2014 and took a hike to the place where Ron took the picture on the back of his calendar at the base of Yosemite Falls. The trip is the focus of our discussion along with a shared lunch with the Ron's PBH sandwiches and some organic apple juice and Mr. Eagleton's "blood oranges". While eating we watched the trips videos and had spirited conversation while enjoying each others company.
After eating we introduced the "Talking Circle". The idea was to record the individual expressions of each club member as we went around the circle giving a word or more to express ourselves. Some portions of these expressions will be added to some sacred pages on this site and used in some of our sacred legacy projects as we move forward and build a library of material. One of the videos documented a "rain dance" by the students, with California's current drought, ironically we had rain today one week later!
Whie looking at over 400 images from the trip, various students (including Ron) were given homework assignments to compose sacred thoughts, image expressions, and story telling for the website. Stay tuned to see what they came up with next week on our site! Yes, we are taking "baby steps" but definitely moving forward and creating awareness of what it means to be human...

January 21, 2014 - First official club meeting occurs and begins with Ron sharing his "famed" organic mix of whole wheat bread, peanut butter and honey sandwiches. He also shares Silk Almond Milk along with the facilities normal lunch. While everyone eats and enjoys the company much is expressed while discussing the need to create a platform to document the journey, thus the website idea is born.
A website is set up using Weebly.com and it is named using a spin off of the original idea "BCA Mission Impossible" to BCA Mission I'mpossible to express the idea that the mission is actually "possible" not "impossible"! The need for a mission statement and vision is discussed and students are given journals to begin writing down thoughts and ideas to contribute to the documentation of their stories.

January 16, 2014 - Ron Kauk visits Bear Creek Academy and the students with Ron Kauk (founder) and Scott McKee (teacher) create the need for a BCA / Sacred ROK club to make sense of the Sacred ROK experiences and find our purpose in our pursuit of being human. A name is chosen for the club after watching a clip from Ron Kauk's stunt-double of Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2... The club agrees to meet weekly at lunch every Tuesday to develop the club and continue with discussion and allow students to express themselves. The first club at VCS, Juvenile Hall is formed!
The club is initially named Mission Impossible based on the "real" mission in life as opposed to the imitation mission presented by the opening movie clip where Tom Cruise performs a rock climbing move that only could happen in "Hollywood", a successful jump that could never really be possible, thus Club "Mission Impossible" was born. Watch the movie clip that inspired the club name, Mission Impossible to compare fantasy to reality.
